FAQ

What is red light, and what is this product?

The use of red and near-infrared light is referred to in the literature as photobiomodulation (PBM). Light of a specific wavelength reaches the tissues, where it is absorbed by the mitochondria, which play a role in cellular energy production. PBM is examined in thousands of scientific publications in connection with skin appearance, regeneration, athletic performance, and general well-being.

The MovTech™ Red Light Mat is a red light mat that you lie or sit on, available in two sizes (900 and 1350 LEDs).

Important: this is a wellness device, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for medical care.

What kind of lights does the device use?

The Red Light Mat wavelengths: 660 nm red and 850 nm near-infrared light, in a 1:1 ratio.

  • the red range (630–660 nm) is absorbed in the layers close to the skin's surface
  • the near-infrared range (810–940 nm) penetrates deeper into the tissues

The device is flicker-free, with an EMF emission of 0 μT.

Who is it recommended for, and from what age can it be used?

For those building a home wellness or recovery routine: athletes, people with active lifestyles, those supplementing their skincare routines, and anyone looking to prioritize their well-being.

Designed for adults. Teenagers should use it only under parental supervision and for shorter periods. For children, consult a pediatrician before use.

If you are under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any pre-existing health conditions, consult your physician before use.

What is the irradiance of the mattress?

Irradiance indicates the amount of light power that reaches one square centimeter of skin. Its unit of measurement is mW/cm².

Measured values of the Red Light Mat on the surface of the mat:

  • 660 nm red channel: approx. 145–160 mW/cm²
  • 850 nm near-infrared channel: approx. 155–165 mW/cm²
  • both wavelengths together: approx. 160–180 mW/cm²

The measurements were performed with a HAAS1200_V1_USB laboratory spectrometer from 0 cm, directly on the surface of the mat. These are peak values measured over individual LEDs, not averages across the entire treatment surface. The 900 and 1350 models are made from the same LEDs and the same circuit board, so the value applies to both.

For a mat, the value measured on the surface is authoritative because your skin lies directly on the light source. Panel data is typically provided from a distance of 15 or 30 cm: there, the light spreads out and the intensity decreases rapidly with distance. Therefore, the values of two devices can only be compared if they were measured from the same distance.

In practice, it is not the intensity alone that counts, but the dose, i.e., the product of intensity and time (J/cm²). With higher intensity, a shorter treatment is sufficient, and longer use does not lead to stronger results.

How to use it: at what distance, for how long, and how often?

The mat comes into direct contact with your body, so there is no distance: lie or sit on it comfortably. Light significantly loses intensity through clothing, so use it on clean, dry, bare skin.

Recommended duration: 10–20 minutes per session; start with 10 minutes as a beginner and increase gradually. Longer use does not produce stronger results.

Frequency: initially 1 time per day or 3–5 times per week, later 2–3 times per week for maintenance. Consistency is more important than intensity.

The controller has five brightness levels (P1–P5), and you can select the 660 nm red light, 850 nm near-infrared light, or both together. In addition to continuous operation, there are 10 Hz and 40 Hz pulsing modes, as well as an H (gradual brightness) mode. For the first few sessions, start with the lowest level (P1) and 10 minutes, then gradually increase. A session should not exceed 30 minutes, and there should be at least a 6-hour break between sessions. Do not combine with tanning beds, UV light, intensive exfoliation, or laser or IPL treatments on the same area.

When will I see a change, and how many sessions will it take?

The effects of PBM routines are gradual, not immediate. Most users report changes after several weeks of consistent use.

  • in the first few weeks, the goal is to establish a routine
  • the routine is typically evaluated after 4–8 weeks
  • after that, a maintenance frequency is recommended

Individual responses vary, and lifestyle factors (sleep, nutrition, exercise) also play a role. If you stop using it, its effects will fade along with the routine, so it is advisable to continue at a maintenance pace.

Is it safe? Do I need eye protection?

Red and near-infrared light is not UV light, so it does not tan the skin or cause sunburn.

However, eye protection is extremely important: do not look directly into the LEDs, and use protective eyewear if the light is near your face.

Mild, temporary skin redness and a feeling of warmth may occur during use; this is normal. If the redness or discomfort does not go away, stop using the device and consult a doctor.

When is its use NOT recommended?

Do not use, and consult your physician beforehand, if any of the following apply to you:

  • active malignant disease, or a mole or lesion in the area to be treated
  • photosensitivity, photosensitive epilepsy
  • taking medication that causes photosensitivity (e.g., certain antibiotics, isotretinoin, St. John's wort)
  • ophthalmological condition
  • treatment of the front of the neck in case of thyroid problems
  • infected or open wound in the area to be treated
  • implanted device or implant in the area to be treated
  • pregnancy or breastfeeding

The device is not a substitute for medical care. In case of complaints, always consult a professional.

What is the difference between the Red Light Mat 900 and the 1350?

The same technology, the difference lies in the size of the treatment area and the number of LEDs:

  • Red Light Mat 900: 180 × 60 cm, 900 pcs 5050 SMD LEDs (450 red and 450 near-infrared), 120 W, 4.15 kg, timer 10–60 minutes
  • Red Light Mat 1350: 180 × 90 cm, 1350 pcs 5050 SMD LEDs, 128 W, timer 10–90 minutes

The LEDs, circuit board, and power supply are identical, so the light power density measured on the surface is the same for both models. The 1350 is wider, thus covering a larger body surface area at once.

Both models operate noiselessly without a fan, have an EMF emission of 0.0 µT, and the LEDs have a lifespan of approx. 50,000 hours. Certifications: CE (EMC and LVD), FCC, SAA, RoHS. Warranty: 1 year.

How should I clean and store it?

Before cleaning, unplug from the power source and allow to cool down completely. Wipe the PVC surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth without using strong cleaning agents. The device is not waterproof; do not immerse it in water. When storing, do not fold or crease the mattress sharply; instead, roll it up loosely or keep it laid flat.

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight. Keep the ventilation openings clear to prevent the device from overheating.

If you notice any unusual sound, odor, or overheating during use, switch it off immediately, unplug it from the power source, and contact our customer service.
